Lesson Plan on "Taxes" Infographic and activities, from Federal Reserve Education (specifically the Atlanta Fed)

Hopefully you are already familiar with the Atlanta Fed's two series of infographics available either electronically or in poster form - if not, use the link below to review the whole set. The series has now been moved to the new FRE.org website, centralizing all Federal Reserve Education materials. In each case the format is the same - students look at several items on a common financial literacy or economics topic, then have a lesson plan that goes with it. I've included a couple of screenshots here from each part, but don't want to spoil the whole lesson . . .

Video (w/discussion questions) - NGPF Fincap Friday - "Tax Tips for Teenagers"

Fincap Fridays is NGPF's weekly series, with 3-5 minute videos covering financial literacy current events topics. Beyond the video, NGPF also provides a Kahoot quiz (can also be found in a no-tech version) and extended resources on the topic. This is a video from April 2024 on tips for teenagers on issues with taxes - it is still the best video I am aware of on the topic (and much more engaging than most of the Tax Day resources oriented toward teenagers). Below I have links to the YouTube version of the video, as well as a link to the blog article (which will lead you to the other resources mentioned above).

Lesson Plan on "Linking Environmentalism with Personal Finance: 4 Ideas for the Classroom” from NextGen Personal Finance (NGPF)

ITwo in a row for NGPF here, mostly because they do such a good job of developing ideas to incorporate financial literacy into different subjects and (like me) different holidays and events through the year. This is based on a blog article they did last year for Earth Day, looking at both existing lessons within their curriculum and new content that could address issues of environmental impact. While the title mentions 4 ideas, I only featured one here on how students can make Earth Day personal to themselves in the purchasing choices they make. But all four are available at the linked blog article below . . .

Videos - PBS's "Two Cents" series - "How Changes In Climate Impact Your Wallet" and "Should I Get an Electric Car?"

Normally I don't recommend multiple videos in a monthly update, but while Fincap Fridays (above) had the best quick resource on Tax Day for teenagers, I thought Two Cents had some really good videos related to Earth Day. Unlike a lot of resources out there focusing on advocacy, these videos focus more on the economic issues (good and bad) and the overlooked impacts those choices can have on longer-term financial stability. These do not have any questions or lessons that go with them, but it is pretty easy to either make your own or create your own Kahoot quiz to check for understanding if you need something like that.

There was not a lot of "brand-new" stuff for this month - guessing everyone was on Spring Break and not thinking about Easter being at the end of the first week of the month. Either way, most of the items I'm going to feature here are either from 2025 OR older favorites that you just may not be aware of. I will try to update a few later in the month - particularly once we get closer to events like Tax Day and Earth Day (if I see anything new and innovative) . . .
