History (and Potential Economic Impact) of Government Shutdowns

I didn't want to get ahead of myself on this topic, but the combination of the news earlier Sunday that moderates are starting to "get things done", combined with an article from Elaine Schwartz at Econlife focusing on the historical aspect of previous government shutdowns, made me take action.

I'm just featuring a few good articles and infographics on the history of government shutdowns, plus a little perspective on the economic impact of previous examples. I particularly liked the PBS poll on the top left as an indicator of why the Senate can't "decide" anything with a 60% vote requirement - because WE (the public) can't! Really trying to stay out of the politics of this one - I think time (and perhaps the 2026 electorate) will ultimately decide "winners", "losers", and a better idea of whether any of this was worth it or not . . .
