JET Conference Keynote #2 - "Repositioning Economics Instruction Around Storytelling and Data Literacy"

Still processing on this one from earlier today, but I like speakers that make me think. I'm keeping this one short - just want followers to "check it out" for themselves with a few links.

Day #2 of the JET (Journal of Economics Teaching) Conference in St. Louis. Our opening keynote this AM was Mahmoud Harding with Data Science 4 Everyone (and the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics). Beyond making me think, it struck me that this resonated with discussions I have had off-and-on with my math-teacher wife about the future of math education. Is calculus the ultimate destination for student progression, or should it be statistics and data analysis? No answers here - just some links so you can look (and think) for yourselves . . .

The basic information:

Info about Mahmoud - https://math.ncssm.edu/faculty-staff/mahmoud-harding

Data Science 4 Everyone's website - https://www.datascience4everyone.org/

A link to some of their previous webinar recordings - I was particularly interested in the Fall 2024 sessions on "Data in the Wild" (always like real-world examples to use with students) and "Demystifying K-5 Data Science" (always know elementary teachers looking for something besides the 3 Rs) - https://www.datascience4everyone.org/past-events-and-recordings

And then some related items from Steve Levitt (a supporter of the DS4E model):
