As I mentioned in the main October holiday post last week, I'm not going to feature too many items this month since I plan to do an additional update for new Halloween resources once we get closer to the end of the month (most of the new stuff won't be released until the week before the holiday). But I do want to feature a few things I did not post about last year, as well as some other non-Halloween resources I want to give some attention to.

Indigenous Persons Day/Columbus Day resources:

Didn't get this out early enough to really take advantage of for the holiday this year (I was driving back from California on the actual day) but still thought some teachers might want to look over the resources in more detail. Still seems to be a topic a lot of places avoid because of the controversy, though I particularly liked the new page from the Gilder-Lehrman Society as part of their look at primary sources related to American holidays series . . .

Source #1 - Gilder-Lehrman Institute of American History - "Columbus/Indigenous Peoples' Day"

Source #2 - The National Council for the Social Studies - "The U.S. Constitution - Rules of the Game"

Below is a screenshot of the Zinn Education Project's page on Indigenous People's Day resources - they are a bit "zealous" in their love of progressive projects and student activism, but have some great "outside the box" resources for teachers to learn more about topics not always covered (or covered in much detail) in traditional textbooks. As always, simply letting you get a glimpse and then let you decide if it is worth it to visit the site and explore for yourself!

Some 2025 (and early 2026) Resources on Halloween

Again, I plan to feature an additional resource post on Halloween later this month - just thought I would include a few of the items I either didn't include last year (or new stuff that came out early). In each case I will just give you a quick pic below, and then the links below that:
